Program Note

This piece recounts the composer’s first experience with turbulence on an aeroplane ten years ago during a twelve-hour flight over Eurasia. It felt like a roller coaster ride, which the composer hates due to high speeds and erratic changes in direction. The plane was cruising so smoothly but every now and then, there would be a sudden drop in altitude, as if the plane were falling and spelling the doom of everyone onboard.

This piece won special mention award by the Calefax Reed Quintet as part of the Calefax Composers Competition 2024.
