Program Note

Originally the piece was a traditional ‘song chan’ song (a moderate tempo piece). Prince Paribatra, while working as minister of the Royal Navy Ministry, enlarged it to a complete ‘tao’ (consisting of slow, moderate, and fast movements) to be played by a military band and used as an overture. The Prince also infused the piece with interesting Western harmony. The original score has been kept in the music archives of the Royal Thai Army and the Royal Thai Navy Military Band.
