Program Note

Eternal Will for wind ensemble is inspired by the timeless proverb, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” The piece is built on a seven-note melody and two contrasting ostinati: a rhythmic accompaniment and a steadfast bassline. These three elements—melody and ostinati—shape the entire journey of the composition, evolving through varied textures and styles.

The piece opens with a proclamation of the main melody, set in a mysterious, wandering atmosphere that reflects a search for meaning. As the journey progresses, the music transforms into a lively rhythmic groove. This is followed by a reflective, slower section featuring a solo instrument, evoking perseverance and determination. The triumphant recapitulation brings the melody back in full force, symbolizing resilience.

In the closing moments, all that remains is the solo ostinato bassline—a metaphor that even when you stand alone, as long as you have the will, you can find your way forward.
