Program Note

The Northern Thai word “La-on” (ละอ่อน), which means “child” or “children,” is used by the composer to reflect a vibrant image of Northern children. The piece captures their lively, talkative nature, waking up early to bathe and go to school, meeting friends, learning, playing, taking a nap, and living together joyfully.

The musical composition begins with a delicate, choral-style rhythm. It then introduces a bright and cheerful main melody. The middle section of the piece evokes the atmosphere of children’s naptime by adapting and rearranging the melody of the folk song “Moo Hao Chao Nuea” (หมู่เฮาชาวเหนือ). This section also incorporates the rhythmic style of the “Sabatchai drum” to enhance the distinct Lanna identity.

This musical composition was created as a gift to the members of the Chiang Rai Community Youth Winds for their “Winds of Lanna” Concert in 2025.
