Program Note

Daiquiri

takes its name from the classic cocktail of the same name. Traditionally, a Daiquiri consists of just three ingredients — rum, lime juice, and sugar — a simple yet timeless blend that has made it one of the most iconic rum cocktails for over a century.

The drink is known for its balance of flavors: sweetness (like beauty in sound), sourness (a lively zest), and endless possibilities for variation, depending on how it is mixed and interpreted. This idea of blending inspired me to create a musical piece that mirrors the cocktail’s character — colorful, versatile, and open to personal taste.

In this work, the soloist embodies the role of the “mixer,” able to interpret and shape the piece in many different ways, producing unique “flavors” with each performance. Yet, no matter the interpretation, the foundation — like the essential three ingredients of the cocktail — remains constant, ensuring both integrity and variety.
