Program Note

Bart Sakuni is a highly sacred musical work in the repertoire of ‘na part’ composition (a type of instrumental music to accompany dances representing the movements and presence of deities). Prince Paribatra, while working as Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Military, developed the piece and arranged it for the military bands of the Royal Thai Navy and the Royal Thai Army. After the completion of the piece, the Prince entrusted Master Phraya Prasarn Duriyasub (Plaek Prasarnsub) and Phraya Natkanurak (Thongdee Suwanpharata) to examine both the music as well as the choreography for correctness. A ritual paying homage to musical masters, seen as well as unseen, was also organized as was customarily done for a ‘na part’ repertoire.
